Thanksgiving & Black Friday in Dothan, Alabama

happythanksgiving Here is a little history to be thankful for… In 1621, the colonists and Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. Thursday, November 24, 2011 will be a day of good home cooking, family, friends, and a time to be thankful for all that we have. I know most Dothan Citizens were thankful the gas prices went down the week of thanksgiving. This blessing came at a great time since a lot of Dothan Natives travel out of town to see their families. Here at Durden Outdoor Displays, we are thankful for our clients who continue to do business with us and our staff that works hard every day (even holidays) to get boards posted. The Durden Outdoor office will be closed Thanksgiving day so that our staff may spend time with their families. Regular work hours will begin again on Monday the 28th. Music Festival Coming to Dothan

toadlick music festivalTOADLICK MUSIC FESTIVAL is a 3-day outdoor country music festival held at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan, Alabama on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of March 2012. TOADLICK will feature some of the biggest names in Country Music performing on two stages throughout three fun-filled days and nights. General admission tickets are available for purchase online at toadlick.com. Trace Adkins, Sara Evans, Dierks Bentley, Billy Currington, and Montgomery Gentry are just a few of the fifteen acts that will be performing on the two amphitheater stages. Not only is there music but there is camping…Camping spaces (full hook-up, partial hook-up, and primitive) will allow you to enjoy the complete TOADLICK experience.

Durden Outdoor is grateful to have had a first hand experience in helping this great event in coming to Dothan, Alabama. They are utilizing all three of the Durden advertising products: Rotary Poster, Bulletins, and our Digital Network. Bulletins are the largest, most impaction standard-size form of outdoor media. Located on highly visible locations, such as expressways and primary arteries, they offer advertisers exposure from heavy traffic patterns. Bulletins afford great visibility due not only to their size, but because they allow creative customizing through extensions and embellishments. A Rotary Poster program is one of the preferred methods used to penetrate the market and build strong brand saturation. Posters are purchased in increments called showings. Poster showings provide a broad, simultaneous market reach that can achieve instant market saturation and high frequency where your customers live, work, and play. Posters are extremely powerful for launching new product campaigns, time sensitive promotions, seasonal and special events (like TOADLICK Music Festival). Digital billboards are the billboards playing an on a large LED display.  The display shows one specific ad for roughly 8 seconds before rotating to the next advertisement.  The advertisements can be featured for both long term brand building marketing campaigns, and short “pulse advertising” to make a direct advertisement to promote an social event, sale, grand opening, or other event. Different ads can be displayed depending on many variables such as time of the day, month, weather, and more. TOADLICK will surely be FAMOUS before its all over. If you would like to be FAMOUS contact us today and become a part of the Durden Advertising Family.

Remembering Jason Barfield

jason-barfield Marine Lance Cpl. Jason N. Barfield,  22, of Ashford, Ala.; assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twenty-nine Palms, Calif.; died Oct. 24 while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The wiregrass area welcomed home a fallen hero, Lance Corporal Jason N. Barfield.  Jason lost his life just over a week ago while serving our country in the war in the Middle East. The entire team at Durden Outdoor was honored to be able to participate in the Jason Barfield movement on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. We were able to create a memorial billboard to play on our Durden Dothan Digital Network in memory of Jason. Along with us, thousands of Dothan Area residents remembered Jason on the day of his arrival home.  Ricky Stokes News was able to help communicate gathering opportunities to the public through his website. People gathered at Lowe’s parking lot where American flags were passed out. All along the circle our community gathered to watch Jason pass by them to his final resting place. WOOF Radio, FM 99.7, also reported on the route of Lance Corporal Jason N. Barfield’s procession as it left the airport and traveled to the funeral home.
At RickyStokes.com or Youtube, you can find very touching videos of the events as well as the Angel Flight video.  If you would like to leave a memorial comment Jason has a facebook page dedicated to him. A young soldier once remarked, “We did not go because we are soldiers; we went because we are AMERICANS.”
Thank you, Jason, for your service as well as all the other men and women who have given their lives fighting for our great country and everything we stand for.
