Make A Statement With Billboards

Uniquely designed billboards are often the most memorable ads. Whether it’s a clever or unexpected out-of-the-box design, billboards executed well are eye-catching and draw consumers in to learn more about your business.

We pride ourselves on our award-winning creative department. We love working with customers who allow us to create outside of the parameters of a standard sign and really bring the idea to fruition. With the help of our production department, we have designed and implemented some pretty impressive billboards that have increased our customers’ bottom line. Check out some of the unique billboards that can offer great inspiration for your future Out-of-Home advertisement.

Dothan Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat

The Jeep extension and real time headlights create exciting imagery that is sure to catch the eyes of drivers who are looking for adventure. With a large and noticeable directional arrow, potential customers can easily make their way to the dealership to take advantage of Dothan Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat’s great prices. This 14’ x 48’ bulletin is a perfect example of adding some small but key features that really bring the sign to life.

Eagle Eye Outfitters

This 10’ x 42’ bulletin features an Omni-heat reflective Columbia jacket. Lined with red LED’s, the lining of the jacket lit up at night, bringing brand awareness to Eagle Eye Outfitters. It helped draw the attention of all those looking to buy something to keep them a bit warmer during the cooler season. Big, bold text and bright colors really took this design to the next level.

Hardee’s

Sometimes, the food speaks for itself. That was the idea behind this 10’ x 42’ bulletin for Hardee’s. It boasts an oversized extension to make the shape of the burger seriously pop. Since this appetizing design will make passing drivers hungry, it also features large, simple text to inform the viewer of the closest Hardee’s locations.

Smoothie King

This Smoothie King billboard is a rotary poster that is wrapped with vinyl. It utilizes an extension to create a straw for the smoothie cup. This was a simple addition to the design that made the item look and feel even more life-like.

Bryan Pharmacy

This 10’ x 36’ bulletin for Bryan Pharmacy features “Boll Weevil Bryan,” which is a clever decision for a company that is advertising in Enterprise, AL, where the boll weevil is the unofficial symbol of the city. This billboard features a waving arm, which is a unique, eye-catching design element to incorporate. This campaign won a Silver American Advertising Award!

Mr. Mattress

Mr. Mattress, a mattress superstore in Dothan, AL, wanted a design that is big, bold and tells a simple story – Shop Local, Save Money, Sleep Better. Durden Outdoor created a giant inflatable pillow to attach to the front of the 14’ x 48’ bulletin to bring it to life. In addition, the client wanted a billboard on the west side of town welcoming traffic into the circle city. Nothing says “Welcome to Dothan” quite like the owner waving to eastbound traffic to say hello. Check out the full video on how these designs came to life by clicking HERE. Restaurants and Out-of Home Advertising

Imagine you are driving around when hunger strikes. Oh yes — it’s lunch time. You then drive by a billboard promoting a nearby restaurant and now you just have to have it. This is the advantage of Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising. For restaurants, this marketing tactic has been proven to drive traffic. In fact, 65% of billboard viewers engaged in an action after seeing a billboard, such as visiting a website, looking up a company on social media, or even visiting the storefront. Although many businesses are tempted to cut back on traditional media, it would be a huge mistake to look past the advantages of OOH. This especially rings true for restaurants that rely on the spontaneous trips and foot traffic. Implementing OOH in your marketing strategy could help make all the difference in driving consumers to your business.   Be Brief

It is important to keep in mind that billboards are meant to be seen, not necessarily completely read. Remember that you should keep your copy brief and let your messaging be clear. Your branding should also be easily identifiable allowing your message to be instantly understood, making customers who see it instantly hungry and lining up at the door. Consider Digital

The advantages of digital billboards is not only cost efficient but also has a quick turnaround time. You have the flexibility to display and change your messaging up frequently. In fact, you can advertise different menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That way, potential customers see the most relevant information at the right time.   Location, Location, Location

If a potential customer sees a billboard that makes them consider visiting your restaurant, chances are, they’ll change their mind if the restaurant would add too much time to their trip. It’s a great idea to purchase ad space for signage that is close enough to your restaurant to make it a convenient detour, but far enough before that the driver has enough time to make a decision. Out-of-Home advertising is a great element to include in any marketing strategy, but especially for a restaurant. Having the ability to publicize different specials throughout the day with the Durden Digital Network, promote an item of the month via the Rotary Poster program or even utilizing Bulletins as directionals to drive traffic to your store, are all great ways to draw in your consumer. The visibility and engagement rate are also great reasons to consider implementing this method in your plan. The Ultimate Famous Maker Passes

The Out-of-Home industry grieves the loss of one of their own. Frankie Stone, Sales Director of Durden Outdoor Displays, Inc., died Thursday, February 4, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. Frankie began his career as a FAMOUSMaker in 1988 at the ripe young age of 19. He started out on the panel crew at minimum wage before working himself up the ranks over the years to Production Manager. One day, he approached President, Earl Durden, and expressed his interest in sales. While that didn’t quite work out at first, Mr. Durden allowed him to hustle sales on his off days. After proving himself, he finally moved into the sales department, later becoming Sales Director in the early 2000’s managing over 1000 billboard faces. Frankie was one of the most dedicated and loyal individuals that you will ever meet. He enjoyed visiting with people, learning more about their business and helping them become FAMOUS throughout Durden’s 10 county coverage area in southeast Alabama and northwest Florida. He simply loved people. “He was born with a gift of class and a fighting spirit exemplified every day of his 33 year career with our company,” says Earl Durden, president and founder of Durden Outdoor. Frankie was a foster child growing up but would later learn to foster others. He was a mentor to many people who had the privilege of working with him. He always made time for employees and would drop what he was doing to listen and offer advice. He treated his customers the same way. He never was truly “off the clock.” There were many times when he sat in a treestand on Saturday mornings waiting for the perfect buck to come out all while responding to emails, putting proposals together and handling last minute requests that were time sensitive. Frankie was passionate about his work and always put others before himself. “Posting glue ran thru his veins, pumped from a heart full of grace and sincerity” says Bill Durden, Vice President of Durden Outdoor.  “The chemistry Frankie Stone brought to our work family was irreplaceable and he will be sorely missed by many.” Frankie Stone was a frequent attendee of many IBO conferences since 2017.  He leaves behind his wife, Jill, and daughter Hannah who also works as a graphic artist / digital scheduler at Durden Outdoor. When Two Billboards Are Better Than One

The Vance Law Firm wanted to make a statement targeting traffic leaving Pike County, AL headed northbound to Montgomery County, AL and the FAMOUSMakers had the perfect solution to help reach their audience. Just north of Troy, AL we utilized two bulletins that are directly across the road from each other. After having this idea for some time, we knew we wanted the two billboards to work together to tell a visual story. Featuring an arm in a cast and telephone, we used the left-hand read billboard to ask the question, “Injured?” and point drivers across the street to the right-hand read billboard where Stewart Vance, Attorney & Owner, is showcased instructing drivers to “Dial 3 for Me.” Stewart Vance concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death and product liability. He represents those that have been injured in an automobile or other accidents; have suffered severe injuries or death from defective products; or who have had loved ones suffer from nursing home neglect and abuse. The Vance Law Firm has a team of attorneys ready to fight for you. Backed by the “V-Guarantee,” it’s no wonder The Vance Law Firm has been voted “Best Law Firm in Montgomery” for five years in a row. Dothan’s Largest Pill Bottle Lands on the Southside

Dothan Pharmacy is a local, family-owned pharmacy who was looking to make a powerful statement to Dothan’s southside motorists. After discussing ideas with the client, we determined a large bulletin along one of Dothan’s highest traveled arteries was just what they needed. This billboard’s purpose would be two-fold. Primarily, it needed to announce the new store location. We accomplished this by creating a larger-than-life 12 foot tall pill bottle and added a massive directional arrow to essentially slap drivers in the face and say “HEY! WE ARE OVER HERE!” The billboard also needed to convey to viewers that Dothan Pharmacy is not a big box-store pharmacy, unlike their competitor down the road. But rather friendly, fast and family owned. We thoroughly enjoyed working with these guys and can assure you that if you are in the market for a new pharmacy, Dothan Pharmacy will treat you like family.

Billboards Increase Sales for Eufaula Restaurants

Recently, one of Durden Outdoor Displays, Inc.’s long time clients, River City Grill in Eufaula, Alabama, approached us about advertising a new pizza restaurant they were opening. Our creative department got to work and came up with a campaign that would feature River City Grill and what would become the new hotspot of Eufaula, Graffiti’s Pizza Joint. Both of these restaurants are located in beautiful Downtown Eufaula. After working through a couple of designs and tweaks, the creative was installed on three major artery bulletins, targeting northbound and southbound traffic into Eufaula on Hwy 431. The billboards not only served as top of the mind awareness but also as a directional for non-local traffic headed to Columbus and Atlanta or to the beaches. Stephanie Ryan, partner and marketing director of Graffiti’s, said they have seen a significant increase in traffic and sales since their billboards went up. “We receive compliments everyday,” stated Ryan.

If you are in the Eufaula area and have a craving for a fresh New York-style pizza, steak and shrimp or just a great sandwich, check out our friends at River City Grill & Graffiti’s Pizza Joint, where you are sure to leave full and happy.

Durden Outdoor Installs Alabama’s Largest 3D Nose

The #FamousMakers at Durden Outdoor located in Southeast Alabama have always contended to be professional paraphrasers.  We have a general rule to keep a headline shorter than 7 words as we only have 8-10 seconds to get our point across.  While working on a new 2016-17 creative theme for one of our favorite clients, we achieved this goal…….plus we were able to add one new creative element on a billboard to push it over the top! CLICK TO SEE THE 3D NOSE VIDEO:  https://youtu.be/GD9ocJnELrM bryanpharmeditedpic Bryan Pharmacy is a locally operated pharmacy with 3 locations in Enterprise and Elba, Alabama.  Check them out at http://www.bryanpharmacy.com/ Owner Brett Bryan knows that to compete against the big chains, he has to offer customers a better experience than the “BIG CHAINS” and be creative with his marketing budget.
“Bryan Pharmacy is proud to claim the fastest prescription turnaround matched with the friendliest customer service in the Coffee County area. This is where the headline“Sniffl’n around for a faster pharm” originated from” says Durden Outdoor’s creative director Bill Durden.  “This client is always willing to push the envelope with their creative as they know it works.”  The #FamousMakers were also able to incorporate the nose element into the rest of the FAST theme by using the following headlines:
Because waiting STINKS.
Because big chains STINK.
Because you asked for 7 days. Because we help your momma and ’em.
