Make A Statement With Billboards

Uniquely designed billboards are often the most memorable ads. Whether it’s a clever or unexpected out-of-the-box design, billboards executed well are eye-catching and draw consumers in to learn more about your business.

We pride ourselves on our award-winning creative department. We love working with customers who allow us to create outside of the parameters of a standard sign and really bring the idea to fruition. With the help of our production department, we have designed and implemented some pretty impressive billboards that have increased our customers’ bottom line. Check out some of the unique billboards that can offer great inspiration for your future Out-of-Home advertisement.

Dothan Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat

The Jeep extension and real time headlights create exciting imagery that is sure to catch the eyes of drivers who are looking for adventure. With a large and noticeable directional arrow, potential customers can easily make their way to the dealership to take advantage of Dothan Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat’s great prices. This 14’ x 48’ bulletin is a perfect example of adding some small but key features that really bring the sign to life.

Eagle Eye Outfitters

This 10’ x 42’ bulletin features an Omni-heat reflective Columbia jacket. Lined with red LED’s, the lining of the jacket lit up at night, bringing brand awareness to Eagle Eye Outfitters. It helped draw the attention of all those looking to buy something to keep them a bit warmer during the cooler season. Big, bold text and bright colors really took this design to the next level.

Hardee’s

Sometimes, the food speaks for itself. That was the idea behind this 10’ x 42’ bulletin for Hardee’s. It boasts an oversized extension to make the shape of the burger seriously pop. Since this appetizing design will make passing drivers hungry, it also features large, simple text to inform the viewer of the closest Hardee’s locations.

Smoothie King

This Smoothie King billboard is a rotary poster that is wrapped with vinyl. It utilizes an extension to create a straw for the smoothie cup. This was a simple addition to the design that made the item look and feel even more life-like.

Bryan Pharmacy

This 10’ x 36’ bulletin for Bryan Pharmacy features “Boll Weevil Bryan,” which is a clever decision for a company that is advertising in Enterprise, AL, where the boll weevil is the unofficial symbol of the city. This billboard features a waving arm, which is a unique, eye-catching design element to incorporate. This campaign won a Silver American Advertising Award!

Mr. Mattress

Mr. Mattress, a mattress superstore in Dothan, AL, wanted a design that is big, bold and tells a simple story – Shop Local, Save Money, Sleep Better. Durden Outdoor created a giant inflatable pillow to attach to the front of the 14’ x 48’ bulletin to bring it to life. In addition, the client wanted a billboard on the west side of town welcoming traffic into the circle city. Nothing says “Welcome to Dothan” quite like the owner waving to eastbound traffic to say hello. Check out the full video on how these designs came to life by clicking HERE. Out-of-Home Advertising During COVID-19

In early 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a drop in Out-of-Home visibility due to the Safer at Home order and social distancing. Now that we are well over a year into the pandemic, people are getting back on the roads and back to a new “normal” lifestyle. Because of this, billboards were, and still are, an important aspect of your marketing campaign. With more people resuming travel, Durden Outdoor has also seen an increase in COVID-19 messaging, encouraging people to get vaccinated and save lives.       There are several rumors circulating such as “The vaccine causes fertility issues” and “I don’t need the vaccine, I’ve already had COVID.” In order to squash these myths and educate the public, city and state officials are running billboard campaigns that push customers to websites where up-to-date information can be found. The hope is by educating the public, more and more people will get vaccinated, save lives and we can return to normal sooner rather than later. Currently, anyone in the state of Alabama that is 16 or older is eligible to receive the vaccine. The City of Dothan’s “Love Dothan” campaign ran a series of “Myth” ads utilizing the Durden Digital Network. The campaign features various myths about the COVID-19 vaccine with a website address to get more information about FAQ’s and registering for the vaccine. The Alabama Department of Public Health also ran a digital Out-of-Home campaign, each featuring a simple but encouraging message about getting vaccinated along with a website to find out more information.       In a time when most people are getting back to being out and about, and therefore are regularly exposed to Out-of-Home advertising, billboards are a critical part of COVID-19 messaging. Social media is so flooded with information about the virus that it’s hard to determine what’s fact and what’s not. The Key to a Successful Digital Billboard Campaign

Billboards continue to be a massive part of modern-day advertising for many businesses. They are a great tool to help optimize the connections being made for new potential customers daily. Digital Out-of-Home has made the advertising industry more cost-efficient and effective.

Although it is very similar to a traditional billboard, there are a few key factors to keep in mind when designing a digital billboard. The Durden Digital Network reaches over 1.3 million cars daily across six markets. With that many impressions, your design is key to running a successful campaign. We have put together some of the best practices we use here at Durden Outdoor Displays, Inc. when creating digital ads.

Simplicity is Key

Creating an effective digital billboard design starts with readability. The best designs are of no use if they are not legible from a distance. Legibility should be the first priority to create a successful design. The average driver has approximately 6-7 seconds to view a billboard. It is crucial to have a simple design that fully tells your brand’s story and also drives the consumer to your business.

Be Bold

Using bold fonts makes the message easier to read from the road. Big, bold lettering helps drivers comprehend your message quickly and retain information for later.

Tell A Story

While the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” may be cliché, it does ring true. Images help make an emotional connection to those who view it. We suggest adapting the idea that less is more and using an image to convey the message that won’t fit into words.

Stay Consistent

To communicate your message more effectively, you must hone in on one key element that will stick with the audience. You only have, on average, about 4 seconds to gain their attention. It’s best not to stack your ad with multiple messages at once but rather a single message to draw in your potential customer. In addition, you should keep your message concise and consistent throughout all mediums that you are using.

Image is Everything

Picking the right images for your message is highly important. We recommend keeping the visual elements to a minimum and avoid making the design busy or crowded. A single image or graphic with bold wording will allow your consumer to absorb the information being presented to them easily.

Digital Capabilities

A great way to reach a consumer is making your advertisement relevant. With digital billboards, this is easy to achieve. Digital advertising allows clients to plan in a shorter time frame with quick turnaround times. It gives your business the flexibility to change your design up with the season and even promote daily specials if desired. Flexibility is key in an ever changing environment.

By implementing these best practices with your digital billboard campaign, your business will be set up for success. Are you interested in the Durden Digital Network to gain more exposure? The Ultimate Famous Maker Passes

The Out-of-Home industry grieves the loss of one of their own. Frankie Stone, Sales Director of Durden Outdoor Displays, Inc., died Thursday, February 4, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. Frankie began his career as a FAMOUSMaker in 1988 at the ripe young age of 19. He started out on the panel crew at minimum wage before working himself up the ranks over the years to Production Manager. One day, he approached President, Earl Durden, and expressed his interest in sales. While that didn’t quite work out at first, Mr. Durden allowed him to hustle sales on his off days. After proving himself, he finally moved into the sales department, later becoming Sales Director in the early 2000’s managing over 1000 billboard faces. Frankie was one of the most dedicated and loyal individuals that you will ever meet. He enjoyed visiting with people, learning more about their business and helping them become FAMOUS throughout Durden’s 10 county coverage area in southeast Alabama and northwest Florida. He simply loved people. “He was born with a gift of class and a fighting spirit exemplified every day of his 33 year career with our company,” says Earl Durden, president and founder of Durden Outdoor. Frankie was a foster child growing up but would later learn to foster others. He was a mentor to many people who had the privilege of working with him. He always made time for employees and would drop what he was doing to listen and offer advice. He treated his customers the same way. He never was truly “off the clock.” There were many times when he sat in a treestand on Saturday mornings waiting for the perfect buck to come out all while responding to emails, putting proposals together and handling last minute requests that were time sensitive. Frankie was passionate about his work and always put others before himself. “Posting glue ran thru his veins, pumped from a heart full of grace and sincerity” says Bill Durden, Vice President of Durden Outdoor.  “The chemistry Frankie Stone brought to our work family was irreplaceable and he will be sorely missed by many.” Frankie Stone was a frequent attendee of many IBO conferences since 2017.  He leaves behind his wife, Jill, and daughter Hannah who also works as a graphic artist / digital scheduler at Durden Outdoor. Digestive Health: If 2020 Were a Drink

This year has been unlike any other. Most would agree that it has not had a great taste to it. Here’ hoping that taste doesn’t linger.
Digestive Health Services (DHS) was looking for a new summer campaign. Something that would speak to our general disdain for 2020. Never ones to shy away from humor, DHS decided to turn this lemon of a year into lemon aid, err Colon Prep.
The idea was first presented by DHS and our creative team took it and created two ads with a cohesive theme. That theme being alcohol advertisements. If we’re going to speak about 2020 as a cocktail (or mocktail), why not mix it up and pay homage to the classics in look and feel.
These two ads have been running in both the Durden Digital Network and Poster Rotary System. So, go on, drink ’em in. Got another suggestion for 2020’s drink of the year? Let us know in the comments.

When Two Billboards Are Better Than One

The Vance Law Firm wanted to make a statement targeting traffic leaving Pike County, AL headed northbound to Montgomery County, AL and the FAMOUSMakers had the perfect solution to help reach their audience. Just north of Troy, AL we utilized two bulletins that are directly across the road from each other. After having this idea for some time, we knew we wanted the two billboards to work together to tell a visual story. Featuring an arm in a cast and telephone, we used the left-hand read billboard to ask the question, “Injured?” and point drivers across the street to the right-hand read billboard where Stewart Vance, Attorney & Owner, is showcased instructing drivers to “Dial 3 for Me.” Stewart Vance concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death and product liability. He represents those that have been injured in an automobile or other accidents; have suffered severe injuries or death from defective products; or who have had loved ones suffer from nursing home neglect and abuse. The Vance Law Firm has a team of attorneys ready to fight for you. Backed by the “V-Guarantee,” it’s no wonder The Vance Law Firm has been voted “Best Law Firm in Montgomery” for five years in a row. Dothan’s Largest Pill Bottle Lands on the Southside

Dothan Pharmacy is a local, family-owned pharmacy who was looking to make a powerful statement to Dothan’s southside motorists. After discussing ideas with the client, we determined a large bulletin along one of Dothan’s highest traveled arteries was just what they needed. This billboard’s purpose would be two-fold. Primarily, it needed to announce the new store location. We accomplished this by creating a larger-than-life 12 foot tall pill bottle and added a massive directional arrow to essentially slap drivers in the face and say “HEY! WE ARE OVER HERE!” The billboard also needed to convey to viewers that Dothan Pharmacy is not a big box-store pharmacy, unlike their competitor down the road. But rather friendly, fast and family owned. We thoroughly enjoyed working with these guys and can assure you that if you are in the market for a new pharmacy, Dothan Pharmacy will treat you like family.
